Another NY Rangers Player Emerges On Trade Block
Jacob Trouba and Kaapo Kakko are already long gone, and Chris Kreider’s name is prominently out there. But now it’s been revealed that another New York Rangers player is on the trade block—and apparently has been for the last month.
According to Arthur Staple in The Athletic, he noted recently that defensive forward Jimmy Vesey’s name was put out there pretty much at the same time that GM Chris Drury’s infamous trade memo went out around the league last month that included Trouba and Kreider’s names.
Vesey is a depth forward who hasn’t had nearly the same impact this season for the Rangers as in the last couple of years. He scored 24 goals combined while playing at least 80 games in each of 2022-23 and 2023-24. But in the current campaign, in just 19 games, and only 9:53 average ice time, he has a mere 3 goals and 4 points. He’s been a healthy scratch on some occasions, while battling an injury at other times.
As Staple notes, the return in any Vesey trade isn’t likely to be more than a fourth or fifth round pick. He’s in the final season of a 2-year, $800,000 AAV deal and will be a UFA at season’s end.
The 31-year-old is in his second go-round with the Blueshirts, having started his career there in 2016 with three straight years of at least 16 goals a season. He was a third round pick of the Nashville Predators in the 2012 NHL Draft.
It’s pretty clear that the Rangers will continue to shake things up, as their swoon continues, with a 5-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Monday their 13th defeat in the last 17 games.
