NY Rangers Sign Igor Shesterkin to Huge Long-Term Pact

It's been a very busy day for the New York Rangers. Just hours after completing the Jacob Trouba trade, saving themselves $8 million in cap room, they agreed to terms on a long-awaited extension with All-Star goalie Igor Shesterkin.

ESPN Insiders Kevin Weekes and Emily Kaplan were the first to break the news, announcing the eight-year agreement. It's since been confirmed to be worth $11.5 million annually for a total value of $92 million.

Coincidentally, with the Trouba trade combined with the earlier waiving of Barclay Goodrow last June, the Blueshirts found themselves $11.6 million lighter in cap space for next season. That obviously helped pave the way to get this Shesterkin deal done.

Shesterkin, the 2022 Vezina Trophy winner and two-time All-Star, sets the new mark for goaltenders in salary, surpassing the $10.5M AAV that Carey Price had with the Montreal Canadiens.

The Rangers netminder owns a career 143-68-18 mark, with a .920 save percentage and 2.48 goals against average across his six NHL seasons.
