Canadiens & Oilers Complete 1-for-1 Trade
The Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers completed a trade on Friday afternoon, but it's understandable that this one fell through the cracks of the media's attention with the headline-grabbing move of New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba.
The Habs sent former first-round pick Jacob Perreault to the Oilers for defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer.

Perrault was a first-round selection (27th overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2020 NHL Draft, and is a Montreal native. He's played just one NHL game for the Ducks (back in the 2021-22 season), and came to the Montreal organization in 2023. He has spent most of his time in the AHL, though this season has also split time in the ECHL. His father, Yanic Perrault, played 859 NHL games over 14 seasons.
Hoefenmayer, a Toronto native, was a 4th-round pick in 2017. He was a top-scoring D-man for the Ottawa 67s in junior hockey. According to a 67s reporter, this should be a happy day for the Hoefenmayer family — at least his father, who was obviously a huge Habs fan.

The 25-year-old will likely be assigned to the Laval Rocket of the AHL.
