Huge Hit to Dallas Stars as Tyler Seguin Could Be Done for the Season

Terrible news for the Dallas Stars, as they've lost Tyler Seguin for a significant period, after the team announced that he'll undergo hip surgery on Thursdsay and will be out for four-to-six months. This timeline means that his regular season is almost certainly done, while even a return for the playoffs is sketchy.

The 33-year-old veteran was off to a great start to the season, with 20 points in 19 games. The 86-point pace would have been a career-best.

Under the timeline presented by GM Jim Nill, the best-case scenario for Seguin would be a return in early April, with just a handful of games to go in the regular season. The pessimistic end of his timeline could very well wipe out any chance of a playoff appearance as well.

Per the announcement, the surgery will repair a left-side FAI (femoral acetabular impingement) and the left-side hip labrum.

The Stars will place Seguin on LTIR, and receive $9.85 million of cap space to allow for some major additions at the trade deadline.

A former 2nd overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, Seguin is a six-time All-Star and has ten 20+ goal seasons, including topping the 30-goal mark in five of his first six seasons in Dallas.
