Hurricanes Lose Jack Drury For Extended Period

The Carolina Hurricanes have announced a tough break—literally—for bottom-six forward Jack Drury. He suffered a hand injury in Tuesday's game, and head coach Rod Brind'Amour today announced that he has a break in his hand and will be undergoing surgery.

The coach indicated it was "something in his thumb" and there is no timeline for his return.

Drury had been seeing some increased minutes over the past few weeks, but now will have to sit for a while. He has three goals and nine points in 28 games, with a plus/minus rating of +4. He's averaging a career-high 13:09 time on ice per night, while winning 56.4% of his faceoffs taken.

The 24-year-old was a second-round pick (42nd overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Canes. In his second full season last year, the underrated center posted nine goals and 27 points. He's been given more and more responsibility this season, including plenty of time on special teams.

He signed a two-year, $1.725 million contract this past summer.

Center Tyson Jost was recalled from the AHL to replace Drury on the roster.
