Insider: Dallas Stars Going "Big Game Hunting" on Trade Market

The Dallas Stars suffered a brutal blow last week with the loss of Tyler Seguin for likely the rest of the regular season at least. But that doesn't mean they not still putting the pedal to the metal this season in another attempt at a real Stanley Cup run.

Insider Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff says Seguin's $9.85 million in cap space that could be placed on LTIR will buy them plenty of options.
The Dallas Stars are going big game hunting.
With the unfortunate Tyler Seguin injury, GM Jim Nill is planning to be aggressive with his cap space. Internally, the feeling is this is THE year to go for it, and everyone from owner Tom Gaglardi on down is aligned. And I mean big-name, big-ticket players both up front and on the back end.

We know that the Stars aren't shy of going for it when they think they've got a shot, as evidenced last season when they went out and acquired Chris Tanev, who was a key cog on their blueline on the run to the Conference Finals.

But to obtain one of those "big-game", "big-ticket" items Marek alludes to, they will have to give something up. And the insider names three notable young pieces that Nill would love to hang onto—Logan Stankoven, Mavrik Bourque and Lian Bichsel—but just might have to part with at least one of them to make one of these big splashy acquisitions.

One name that Marek ties to a Dallas pursuit could be a longshot, as the Columbus Blue Jackets seem adamant about re-signing pending UFA Mathieu Olivier
