Insider: Hurricanes Have A Plan on Adding a Goaltender
So the Colorado Avalanche got their help between the pipes last week with the acquisition of Mackenzie Blackwood. But the Carolina Hurricanes, who everyone knows are in the market for some help in the crease, have not made a trade move yet.
And according to insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, speaking on Flames Nation on Monday, the Canes' plan on adding a goalie is to... do absolutely nothing right now. You see, Carolina has just realized that they are the only buyer on the market.
That's what the Carolina Hurricanes have just figured out. Oh, 'wait a second, no one else is looking for a goalie!... If we sit back and wait because we're in fine shape, we might not need to pay much at all to get a legitimate upgrade that can help our team... We don't need to do anything right now... We've never paid a premium for goaltending.'
Dan Vladar was one of the targets, and the Hurricanes are waiting it out, hoping that the Calgary Flames drop the asking price from a second-rounder to a third-rounder, for example, says Seravalli.
Other names under consideration include Karel Vejmelka from the Utah Hockey Club, John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks, and potentially others that might become available.
For now, the Hurricanes will continue to go with Pyotr Kochetkov, who sports an .895 save percentage and a 2.61 goals against average, and 35-year-old Dustin Tokarski, who registered a win in his season debut on Sunday after posting a 1.61 GAA and a .933 save percentage in five AHL appearances this season.
