Insider: Teams Would “Climb Up Buildings to Get” This Rangers Player

The New York Rangers' swoon continues, after yet another loss, and they have now dropped 15 of their last 19 games. It's a stunning collapse from last year's President's Trophy winners, unlike anything in recent memory. Yet after a couple of recent trades, and now word that head coach Peter Laviolette's job is in jeopardy, we know that more changes will be coming.

Insider Elliotte Friedman reported on his 32 Thoughts podcast this week that there is one player in particular on the Rangers that teams are scrambling to get in line for:

We are far from finished with major change from the Rangers. And I'll say this: I think if there was a guy who was available...that teams would be climbing up buildings to go get, would be (Vincent) Trocheck. If he was available, teams would be killing themselves to get him.

Trocheck is a two-time All-Star and a top-line center for the Rangers, and is coming off three straight 20+ goal seasons, with a plus-rating in each of those years. This season he's at 10 goals and 23 points in 36 games while playing a career-high 21:35 per night.

Be it face-offs, offense, defense, power play, penalty kill, he is the definition of a complete player. He's also been a very solid playoff performer.

Trocheck still has four more years to run after this one on his $5.625 million AAV, and holds a full no-move clause through this season, so he would have to agree on any potential trade.

But as Friedman suggests, trading him is likely not on the Rangers' radar. "I am not convinced at all that they would want to do that."
