Maple Leafs Place Nylander on Waivers

It was a dream come true for the Nylander brothers when younger bro Alex got the call to the Toronto Maple Leafs a few weeks back to join his All-Star older sibling on the team.

But after a scoreless five-game tryout with the big club, Alex has now been placed on waivers, as the Leafs will try to sneak him through and send him back to the Marlies of the AHL.

The 26-year-old was handed an NHL contract by the Buds on Nov. 22nd, with the team's forward core hit hard by injuries to Auston MatthewsMax DomiMatthew Knies, Max Pacioretty, and Bobby McMann in addition to Calle Jarnkrok who is on LTIR.

But with all except McMann and Jarnkrok now back in the lineup, Alex Nylander was no longer needed.

In his five games up with the big team, he had no points in his average 9:53 time on ice per night.

With the Marlies this season, he had eight goals and 12 points in 14 AHL games. Last season, in a 23-game run with the Columbus Blue Jackets to finish the season, he potted 11 goals.

The Leafs also placed defenseman Dakota Mermis on waivers.
