NHL Rumors: 4 Players Who Could Be On The Move Before The Trade Deadline

Several notable players could be on the move ahead of the March 7th NHL trade deadline, as discussed by the Sportsnet panel featuring Sam Constantine, Justin Bourne, Luke Gazdic, and David Amber.

Nazem Kadri of the Calgary Flames was a key name, with Bourne pointing to Calgary’s rebuilding phase and Kadri’s $7 million annual contract running through 2029.

“At this stage of his career, he wants to be somewhere with a chance to win,” Bourne explained, suggesting teams like the Carolina Hurricanes as a natural fit for the Stanley Cup-winning forward.

Bryan Rust of the Pittsburgh Penguins was another player mentioned, with Gazdic noting Rust’s strong season—16 points in 23 games—and his value as an upcoming UFA.

“He’s on pace for 35 goals and would help any team’s top six,” Gazdic said. If Pittsburgh fails to climb back into the playoff race, Rust could become a coveted rental for contenders looking to add reliable scoring depth.

Similarly, David Amber turned the focus to power forwards, naming Alex Tuch of the Buffalo Sabres as a player to watch if Buffalo’s struggles continue. “Tuch is sensational,” Amber said, adding that the Sabres might consider moving him if their postseason hopes fade.

Josh Anderson of the Montreal Canadiens and defenseman David Savard were also discussed as potential trade chips.

While Anderson’s production has been inconsistent, Amber noted his physical presence could still appeal to playoff-bound teams, though Montreal might need to retain part of his $5 million cap hit.

With several teams teetering on the edge of contention, decisions involving cornerstone players like Kadri and Tuch could shape the trade market as teams seek upgrades for a postseason push.
