Report: Anaheim Ducks Have New Plans for Jacob Trouba
The Anaheim Ducks made a big splash when they landed veteran leader Jacob Trouba from the New York Rangers. And while many observers around the league immediately suggested that the Ducks would look to flip him by the trade deadline, a new report says Anaheim has other ideas for the reigning Messier Leadership Award winner.
According to insider Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, the Ducks see the 30-year-old as a leader heading into the future for their young team.
It’s sounding highly unlikely that the Ducks will flip Jacob Trouba at the deadline after acquiring him from the Rangers. Apparently a lot of work went into convincing Trouba that he’ll be a big part of their rebuild and also provide wonderful opportunities for his wife in the medical field after completing her residency.
The insider went on to report that the Ducks are already "exploring" an extension for Trouba, though with another year remaining on his $8 million AAV deal, he's not eligible to sign until July 1st.
He's already averaged 20 minutes of ice time per night in his two games, playing on a veteran tandem with Cam Fowler (who is likely to be on the move this season). Trouba handed out a team-high five hits in his first game, and has brought some solid physical play and leadership to the blueline.

Trouba took a lot of heat for the struggles of the New York Rangers this year, but it sounds like he's found a new home in Anaheim.
