Report: Bruins Getting "A Lot of Calls" on Trent Frederic

Trent Frederic's name has surfaced on Trade Boards so far this season, given his impending UFA status, and for good reason. Frederic is the type of player that every contender needs come playoff time.

Insider Elliotte Friedman noted on Hockey Night in Canada that, despite his slow start to the season, there are plenty of teams interested in the Boston Bruins' feisty forward.

The Bruins are definitely getting a lot of calls, (with teams saying) 'What are you thinking here? Will you keep him, will he be available?' He's a guy that's definitely got a lot of interest.

The 26-year-old's $2.3-million cap hit expires at the end of the season, and there is no indication on where contract negotiations stand, or if an extension is in the works.

Frederic was a first-round pick by the Bruins in the 2016 NHL Draft (29th overall), and the past two seasons has proven himself to be a very good secondary scorer (35 goals total over that period) in addition to his status as a stout defensive forward.

This season, his offensive numbers are down—just five goals and 11 points in 31 games going into Saturday night's action, but he's been coming around in that area, with five points in his last seven games.

And on the defensive end, he's laid out 95 hits, second on the Bruins. Last season, Frederic nearly doubled his previous career high in hits, as he delivered 204. All in just 13:23 of ice time per game. And he really cranked it up in the playoffs, laying out 53 hits in just 13 games.

Every contender could use Frederic on their third line, and there's no doubt he will continue to be in high demand if the Bruins are considering trading him.
