Report: Teams Have Called Sabres On At Least 7 Players

The vultures are circling. As the Buffalo Sabres season continues to rot, rival teams are looking to pick off whatever juicy pieces they can, sensing a potential desperation move, even though owner Terry Pegula and GM Kevyn Adams have insisted that will not happen.

According to insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, teams have called on at least seven Sabres mainstays.

The most obvious one, a name that's already been in some mock trades and has been making the rounds, is Dylan Cozens. He is in just the second year of a $7.1M AAV deal, and is off to a very slow start this season, with just 14 points in 32 games.

But Pagnotta lists more notable names that teams have enquired about:

  • Alex Tuch
  • Bowen Byrum
  • Owen Power
  • Jack Quinn
  • JJ Peterka
  • Henri Jokiharju
None of these names have appeared on anybody's official Trade Boards thus far this season, but as the Sabres continue to slide, that could change, as we've already started to hear on Cozens.

From the above list, at one end of the scale, Quinn has been a huge disappointment since Buffalo made him the 8th overall selection in the 2020 Draft, partly due to injury and partly to underperformance. It was felt that a healthy return this season from two serious injuries last year might see him finally break through. But that has not happened, as he has just 3 goals and 7 points in 26 games. Could they be ready to cut bait on him?

Power, on the other extreme, he's a long-term piece of the future, just starting his seven-year, $8.35M extension this season. The former No. 1 overall pick isn't going anywhere.

As for everyone else on the list, anything goes.

The Sabres hit rock bottom Tuesday night in a dreadful 6-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Buffalo is now winless now in its last 11 games, and something has got to give.
