Sabres GM "On the Phone Non-Stop", Ready to Make A "Big" Move
Despite claims from the Buffalo Sabres that they're not going to make a 'panic move', a report from insider Darren Dreger on TSN's Insider Trading indicates that GM Kevyn Adams is working hard to do something significant and bring in a top player to shake up his spiralling club.
They definitely are (trying to do something). I'm told that GM Kevyn Adams has really been on the phone non-stop in the last week and that would align with the Buffalo Sabres' status. They're in the midst of this winless streak so to some degree, the sharks have been circling.
Look, Adams is willing to do something big. But teams are looking to take advantage of the Sabres in this situation. They want Buffalo's top players, and are willing to give decent players but they haven't agreed on what the definition of a return of a 'top player' is. So they'll keep pushing in Buffalo.
The Sabres are in freefall mode, and have gone winless in their last 11 games, plummeting to the very bottom of the Eastern Conference standings at 11-17-4.
Dylan Cozen's name has been prominent among trade rumors thus far, but we've also heard Bowen Byram's name pop up. The latter was the return in a bold one-for-one trade that the Sabres made last year with the Colorado Avalanche, sending Casey Mittelstadt in exchange for Byram.
Perhaps Adams is looking to do something similar. He is definitely being wary of not falling into the trap of doing something he'll regret down the line, just because the team is struggling right now.
The Sabres are facing their 14th straight season without a playoff appearance, which would add to their record for the longest playoff drought.
