Sabres Rumors: Trade talks heating up on Dylan Cozens

The Buffalo Sabres are once again not meeting expectations this season, posting a 11-14-4 record through their first 29 games. GM Kevyn Adams will need to re-tool his roster if he wants to get the Sabres back into the playoff picture.

One name that continues to make the rounds is forward Dylan Cozens. Cozens, 23, has scored six goals and 13 points in 26 games. He's coming off a down year, with just 47 points in 79 games. After signing an seven-year, $49.5 million contract in 2023, there's been mounting pressure on Cozens helping Tage Thompson push the Sabres offensively.

Recently, Elliotte Friedman mentioned Cozens future in Buffalo in his written 32 Thoughts, and had this to say:

Alright, some other stuff: Buffalo is getting calls on Dylan Cozens. This would terrify me if I were the Sabres, vultures circling overhead while player and team struggle. Right-shot centre, 23 years old, two years removed from a 30-goal season. He’s also signed for five more seasons at a $7.1M AAV, helping his value. I would be very, very careful with this because he’s legitimately wanted.

As Friedman points out, moving Cozens would be extremely risky for Adams and company. He still has untapped potential and at $7.1 million AAV, could be a steal of a deal in a few years.

The Sabres need to do something, there's no doubt at that. Adams is skating on thin ice and his next move, could potentially be his last.
