Senators Rumors: GM Making Trade Offers for Top-4 D, Top-6 Winger

The Ottawa Senators have shrugged off a slow start to the season and are currently in a wild-card position after the holiday break. Senators GM Steve Staios will be aggressive in early 2025, as he looks to upgrade his roster and ensure his team finally makes it into the postseason.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Senators have a big wish list on the trade market that includes adding a top-four defenseman and top-six scoring winger.

If they could keep this momentum going, they’re going to potentially push even further. Yes, as you mentioned, Kate, Staios would like to address a couple areas on his team. The defence, without question. If they could bring in somebody that has more of a stay-at-home, physical, defensive prowess kind of mentality, that’s what they would like to bring in Ottawa. They need somebody to kind of shut down and stabilize things on that backend. And if he could fit the top-four, that’s perfect for what they’re looking for.

In addition to that, they need another winger. They would like to bring in another offensive scoring winger at some point this season. They’ve got a little bit of cap space to play with. Anything big would likely result in somebody coming out of the lineup. But Ottawa is looking at both ends.

The Senators have just over $3 million in deadline cap space, and own their first, second, and third-round draft picks in 2025. Look for Staios to be open to just about anything if it means the Senators are going to qualify for the postseason.
