Werenski Blasts Laine For Calling Out Blue Jackets: "It's Unacceptable"

Patrik Laine made his return to Columbus Monday night in a Montreal Canadiens uniform for the first time, but not before he blasted his ex-team earlier in the day, essentially calling them losers. But after a Blue Jackets 5-4 win, Columbus veteran defenseman and team leader Zach Werenski came right back with a scathing response of his own directed at Laine, calling his ex-teammate's words "unacceptable."

"We were nothing but good teammates to him, nothing but good friends to him. For him to bash us like that, I think it's unacceptable. I hope he's alright with whatever he's dealing with tonight, but he didn't finish the game. A couple hits and I don't know what happened. But it's unfortunate, we were nothing but good teammates to him.

"For him to come in here and say that, it's bulls**t."

But the nine-year veteran D-man didn't stop there.

What's he thinking saying that? It's just incredible. I've got no more time for that. I don't want to talk about Patty anymore. I hope he's all right. I just thought that was pretty ridiculous, to be honest.

Werenski said that Laine's roasting of his ex-teammates gave them extra motivation out there in this one. The Columbus crowd, as well, rained boos down on Laine whenever he touched the puck. A hard hit leveled the former 2nd overall pick in the first period, and he eventually left the game injured after playing just six minutes.

"Definitely not happy about it," Werenski concluded about his ex-teammate's comments. "None of us in this room are happy about it. I think it speaks more about him than it does about us."
