Word Emerging on Future Of Sharks' Impending UFA Fabian Zetterlund

Fabian Zetterlund has emerged as one of the top young players for the San Jose Sharks in their rebuild. He's following up a breakthrough 24-goal, 44-point season last year with numbers that should nudge even higher than that this year.

But as an impending restricted free agent, the Sharks need to make a move on how they're going to deal with Zetterlund's future. And according to a recent report from Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, extension talks are underway.

Fabian Zetterlund wants to stay…and it sounds like the San Jose Sharks want him back.

San Jose Hockey Now has heard that the Sharks and pending RFA Zetterlund have begun talks about an extension.

“I want to stay here for a long time," says Zetterlund, who has found a home in the San Jose lineup after getting dealt from the New Jersey Devils at the 2023 trade deadline, a place where he never really established himself.

The 25-year-old led the Sharks in goals with 24 last season, and has 11 goals and 12 assists through 34 games this year. He's on a 27-goal, 55-point pace in 2024-25.

Zetterlund has developed close bonds with the other 'Lunds' in the locker room, William Eklund and Mikael Granlund.

His two-year, $1.45 million AAV has been a steal for the Sharks thus far, and they will have to pay up to extend him. The talks are said to be "casual" to this point, per Peng, so although a deal is not close, it's reassuring for Sharks fans that there is mutual desire to work something out.
