2 Frontrunning Trade Destinations for Anaheim Ducks' John Gibson
The Anaheim Ducks are going to be selling off some assets before the March 7 trade deadline, which is very likely going to include veteran goaltender John Gibson. Gibson has been included on several trade boards, as insiders around the league feel his time in Anaheim is coming to an end.
So far this season, the 31-year-old netminder has posted a 7-6-2 record, with a 2.83 goals against average and .909 save percentage. Gibson is signed through the 2026-27 season, making $6.4 million against the cap, and also has a 10-team no-trade list.
Here's two potential trade destinations who could get involved in talks with the Ducks:
Carolina Hurricanes
Consider the injury troubles in the Hurricanes' crease over the years, there's been some speculation brewing they could be in the market for another goaltender. Money could be an issue as they only have $1.4 million in deadline cap space, but that can be easily navigated depending on who is going the other way, and how much salary is retained by Anaheim. Ducks' GM Pat Verbeek isn't against retaining salary if it means there's a sweetener coming back the other way.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Gibson's from the area so many feel he'd welcome a move to the Penguins, and with Pittsburgh's goaltending being so inconsistent the past two seasons, there's certainly some potential for a Tristan Jarry swap with the Ducks. The Pens are 18-19-8 on the year, and just two points out of a playoff spot in the very crowded Eastern Conference.
