3 Seattle Kraken trade candidates ahead of March's trade deadline

It appears the Seattle Kraken are going to have a hard time making the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Kraken enter 2025 sitting near the bottom of the Western Conference, with a 17-19-2 record. Seattle could quickly become sellers ahead of the March 7 trade deadline, as GM Ron Francis continues to navigate a front office.

Here's three Kraken to keep an eye on as trade candidates the next eight weeks:

Yanni Gourde

An easy one first. Gourde has been all over the trade rumors mill of late, with reports from Pierre LeBrun he's open to be moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Gourde is in the final season of his current contract, making $5.1 million. He holds a 23-team trade list, and if the Leafs aren't invovled, look for other contenders to be interested, including Gourde's old team in Tampa Bay.

Daniel Sprong

Sprong can score, but his underlying numbers in just about every other category tends to scare off GM's. Sprong is a pending UFA, who makes $975,000 against the cap. He's scored just one goal and two points in 10 games so far with Seattle this season, however scored 18 goals last season, and 21 in 66 games with the Kraken during the 2022-23 season. Look for playoff-bound teams to take a flyer on Sprong, who is a cheap candidate for depth scoring.

Brandon Tanev

Tanev's a grinder, who many bottom-sixes across the league could benefit from. The Toronto, ON native is earning $3.5 million against the cap this season, and holds a 10-team no-trade clause. Tanev's posted seven goals and 14 points in 37 games this year, playing 14:37 of ice-time, including significant time killing penalties. Look for Francis and the Kraken try and land a second-round pick in exchange for the veteran's services.
