3 Toronto Maple Leafs Who Could Be Traded Before the Deadline
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team to watch ahead of the March 7 trade deadline. There's been several reports the past few weeks stating the Leafs are looking to add, preferably players with term on their contract, and specifically for a 'middle-six centre'.
GM Brad Treliving has pulled off bold trades in the past, and with several key free agents to consider, and the window to the Stanley Cup wide open, look for the Leafs to be very busy before the deadline. Here's three players who could be moved:
Nick Robertson
Robertson seems like a forgone conclusion at this point. He asked for a trade last summer, the team said no, and now there's growing speculation they'll be moving on from the former second-round pick. Robertson's a very one dimensional player, who loves to look for his shot, and so far this season has been very inconsistent. Robertson has eight goals, 12 points in 41 games, and is on the books for $875,000 this season. The 23-year-old winger is a pending restricted free agent, and could be a player a rebuilding team takes a flyer on to give him a change of scenery.
Morgan Rielly
Rielly is a name to watch out for as he's been having a down season so far in Toronto, especially on the defensive side of the puck. Rielly is under contract through the 2029-30 season at $7.5 million AAV and does have a full no-movement clause. With the Vancouver Canucks a team he'd likely approve a deal to, and the fact the Canucks need help on their blueline, these two teams are worth keeping an eye on. Rielly has recorded 22 points in 49 games this season.
David Kampf
Kampf has had a down season, and at $2.4 million AAV for the next two seasons, Treliving could be looking to get out of the 'bad' contract. Kampf's overpaid as a fourth-line centre and while he's an above-average penalty killer, his five on five play this season has been underwhelming. Kampf has a 10-team no-trade clause, so we'll have to see if Treliving has the confidence in Fraser Minten to play the role instead of Kampf, and move the veteran centre for some more defensive depth.
