Adam Boqvist Claimed by Metropolitan Team

The Florida Panthers cut bait on 24-year-old defenseman Adam Boqvist on Thursday, placing him on waivers. Now, for the second time this week, the New York Islanders have added a young blueliner with upside, by claiming Boqvist.
The former 8th overall pick in the NHL Draft (2018), Boqvist signed a minimum $775,000 one-year deal with the Panthers as a free agent last summer, and they were hoping the youngster could begin to reach his potential after three injury-riddled seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he was never able to play in more than 52 games in a season.

But he got into just 18 games with the Panthers, recording six points and a plus/minus rating of minus-4. He was a healthy scratch for almost the entire month of January.

The Isles also acquired defenseman Scott Perunovich from the St. Louis Blues earlier in the week, and now will give a chance to another young d-man looking to make their mark in the NHL.
