Blackhawks' Jason Dickinson on constant losing: 'It feels worse than ever'
The Chicago Blackhawks are once again a bottom-feeding team this season, and forward Jason Dickinson is sick of it.
The Blackhawks were expected to take a giant step forward in year two of the Connor Bedard-era, and that hasn't been the case at all. Chicago is 12-24-2 on the year, and sit dead last in the NHL. After their Winter Classic loss to the St. Louis Blues, Dickinson didn't hide his emotions.
“You felt like things were changing,” Dickinson said Jan.2. “All of a sudden, it feels worse than it ever has. It’s probably because there was hope, there was a reason to be excited about what we were doing, and all of a sudden, it’s now been three embarrassing losses. A lot of thoughts run through your head. You wonder what’s going on, what can I do more of, how can I help move this along?… I don’t know what the answer is exactly.”
Dickinson, 29, is signed through next season at $4.2 million AAV. He does not have any trade protection, and has scored seven goals and 12 points in 38 games this season. After scoring 22 goals last season, Dickinson will be hard pressed to hit the 20-goal mark again this year.
Chicago has $19.9 million in deadline cap space to work with, and while the rebuild continues, look for GM Kyle Davidson to be very active ahead of the March 7 trade deadline.
