Blue Jackets Sign Jake Christiansen To Multi-Year Extension

The Columbus Blue Jackets are staying busy, as they have signed defenseman Jake Christiansen to a two-year, $1.95 million contract extension. Starting next season, Christiansen will carry a $975,000 cap hit.

This Christiansen news comes just days after the Blue Jackets signed forward Zach Aston-Reese to a contract extension as well.

Christiansen, 25, has seen his role with the Blue Jackets increase significantly this season. After appearing in just 44 games with the Blue Jackets over the last three seasons, he has played in all 45 of their contests this campaign. He also currently has one goal and has set new career highs with six assists and seven points.

Overall, Christiansen is becoming a solid piece of the Blue Jackets' blueline, so it makes sense that they have decided to lock up the left-shot defenseman early. He will now look to continue to head in the right direction with his development from here.

In 89 games over four seasons as a Blue Jackets, Christiansen has two goals, 14 points, 67 hits, 85 blocks, and a plus-4 rating.
