Brandon Saad Signs With Stanley Cup Contender Out West

After mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with the St. Louis Blues and eating the remaining $5 million he was owed, Brandon Saad, now an unrestricted free agent, had his choice of where to go next. He has chosen the Vegas Golden Knights.

It's a one-year, $1.5 million contract for the 32-year-old. After clearing waivers earlier this week, he chose to terminate the remainder of his contract with the Blues, which would have paid him $4.5 million next season, rather than report to the AHL.

It's been a rough year for Saad, who had just seven goals with the Blues in 43 games, but now he'll have a chance to join the Golden Knights' middle-six forward mix, where he'll bring his resume of seven previous 20-goal seasons. Just last year, he potted 26 goals in 82 games.

Saad picked Vegas over the other teams known to have interest, which included the Toronto Maple LeafsEdmonton OilersNew Jersey Devils and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In a 14-year career, through 906 games, Saad has compiled 260 goals and 515 points with a plus/minus rating of +37. He has two Stanley Cup rings from 2013 and 2015 with the Chicago Blackhawks.
