Bruins Rumors: Boston Is "Looking At All Options"

The Boston Bruins are in the midst of an unusual season, currently in a playoff position but there are troubling signs that have raised questions about the team's long-term trajectory, according to Conor Ryan of Boston.com

Despite strong performances from core players like David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and goaltender Jeremy Swayman, issues such as a minus-20 goal differential, a 13.4% power play, and a penalty kill ranked 25th in the league have sparked internal discussions about a potential roster shakeup.

Team President Cam Neely and GM Don Sweeney are still optimistic about the team's playoff chances, but Ryan notes the Bruins "may be forced to take steps to strengthen their future rather than gamble on a deep playoff run this season."

Several players could be on the move for the Bruins ahead of the trade deadline.

Ryan noted pending unrestricted free agents Trent Frederic and Morgan Geekie as prime trade candidates due to their value to contenders and expiring contracts.

Meanwhile, established contributors like Charlie Coyle, Brandon Carlo, and captain Brad Marchand might be available if the team decides to focus on more long-term returns.

Marchand, even at 36, could bring in a significant return, with Ryan suggesting he "could land Boston a first-round pick, a prospect, and an NHLer."

Ryan speculates Boston could target players with term, like Joel Farabee or Alex Tuch, or even pursue a blockbuster deal for a star like Elias Pettersson.

As Ryan puts it, "The Bruins have found themselves in no man’s land," and their decisions at this now could be the difference between a potential rebuild or a quick pivot.
