Canadiens Rumors: 2 Teams In The Mix For David Savard
Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard is a clear player to watch at the trade deadline. The right-shot defenseman is a pending unrestricted free agent with a Stanley Cup on his resume, so interest in his services should be quite high.
Savard is starting to grab the attention of other clubs, as The Fourth Period is reporting that the veteran is currently linked to the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks.
Savard has been connected to the Oilers in the past, and it ultimately makes sense. They undoubtedly need help on the right side of their defense, and Savard would give them just that if acquired. When looking at their roster, he could fit nicely on their second pairing. However, the same can also be said about their third pairing.
The Canucks, on the other hand, could also use a boost on the right side of their defense. If they acquired Savard, he would give them that much-needed shutdown blueliner that they have been looking for. In addition, he would provide them with another option for their penalty kill. That would also be the case if he was acquired by the Oilers as well.
We will need to wait and see what happens with Savard from here, but the Oilers and Canucks are clear clubs to watch in the sweepstakes.
