Canucks and Stars emerging as trade partners

The Vancouver Canucks have been busy discussing multiple blockbuster trades, with forwards J.T Miller and Elias Pettersson in the middle of the discussions. By the sounds of it, while there's been several teams linked to Miller, look for the Dallas Stars to potentially come out on top.

The Stars continue to be linked for multiple reasons. They're a contender, they have the need for another top-six forward, and more importantly, they have the necessary cap space to add Miller without the Canucks retaining any salary.

Miller is owed $8 million AAV through 2029-30 season, and does hold a no-movement clause. Being dealt to Dallas, where the weather is good, team is a contender, and the income-tax situation is much easier to swallow than Canada could be appealing for the veteran versatile forward.

The Score's John Matisz mentioned Miller to the Stars in a recent piece and shed some light on why it could make sense. "I'm not necessarily predicting he'll end up in Dallas, but I do like the fit between player and team. First of all, the Stars have the cap space to absorb every cent of Miller's $8-million salary thanks to Tyler Seguin's LTIR status and Jamie Benn's contract coming off the books this summer. Secondly, the Stars' 25th-ranked power play could use Miller's downhill shooting. Finally, Dallas seems like the kind of franchise and market Miller would waive his no-move clause for. Less external pressure, better tax situation, balmy weather, and a Stanley Cup-contending roster."

The Stars and Canucks continue to be two teams to watch on the trade market as Dallas is looking to add an impact player, meanwhile Vancouver is trying to manage through the drama and re-tool on the fly.
