Canucks Change Tune On a JT Miller Return, & "It's a Matter of When, Not If" He's Traded
The Vancouver Canucks continue trade talks in an effort to break up their bickering star centers JT Miller and Elias Pettersson. A Miller trade was very close on the weekend until it fell through at the 11th hour. But according to insider Pierre LeBrun on TSN's Insider Trading, it's not a matter of "if", but "when" when it comes to a Miller trade.
And on top of that, he says the Canucks have now relented on what they will accept in an expected return package:
Everyone seems to agree that the end result will be a trade eventually. What they can't predict is when that will be.
One thing the Canucks have sort of changed their tune on: When this started six or seven weeks ago with talks on JT Miller, the Canucks said 'We need apples for apples. We're trying to make the playoffs here. We don't want to do a futures deal.'
The Canucks have relented on that. (Now) they would do a futures deal when it comes to making a trade with a contender like a Carolina or a New Jersey because they understand that those teams don't want to trade away from their core.
The Hurricanes and Devils came up as two of the potential suitors on Monday morning, with a couple of Canes young players suggested as potential names that Vancouver would be interested in.
LeBrun made it clear that Miller has not, as of yet, given the Canucks a list of teams that he would waive his no-move clause for. However, in certain conversations between the Miller camp and the team, "there's a sense of the general parameters of the kind of team that would make sense."
The Canucks are back in action Tuesday night at home against the Buffalo Sabres, and as of late afternoon Eastern time, there was still no indication if Miller would be in the lineup.
