Canucks' Thatcher Demko: 'I haven't been good enough this season'

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko is holding himself accountable. The veteran netminder recently admitted he isn't happy with the way he's performed this season.

Demko has battled through early-season injuries and so far this year, has appeared in 11 games, posting a 3-4-3 record, with a 3.23 goals against average, and .873 save percentage. After Tuesday's loss to the Buffalo Sabres, Demko spoke postgame and quickly became his toughest critic. "I don't think I've been good enough this year so far," Demko said postgame. "So I got to keep working to find that level that I know I can get to."

"It's been a challenging year dating back to the summer. Obviously, it's been a lot of soul-searching for me over the last few months. I don't know how else to put it, I just haven't been good enough so far. Take it day by day. I know I'm putting in the work, so it will come."

The Canucks are littered with drama these days as J.T Miller appears to be on the move, meanwhile Elias Pettersson has made it clear to management he'd like to stay in Vancouver. As for Demko, he's under contract through the 2025-26 season at $5 million AAV and does not hold any trade protection.
