Ducks Rumors: Trevor Zegras getting moved to Colorado Avalanche?
Anaheim Ducks' forward Trevor Zegras have been linked to trade rumors for two seasons now, and according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, one executive feels he should wind up with the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avs have been busy recently, moving superstar Mikko Rantanen for Martin Necas and Jack Drury from the Carolina Hurricanes. Necas speed will fit in perfectly in Colorado, and now, Zegras could be the next player with offensive firepower to head to mile high.
Zegras, 23, is signed for $5.75 million AAV through the 2025-26 season, and is a restricted free agent once his contract expires. So far this season, Zegras has recorded just five goals, 13 points in 29 games. "I had one executive who told me he'd like the Avalanche to trade for Trevor Zegras," stated Friedman via 32 Thoughts podcast. The executive went on to mention to Friedman, he'd love to see Zegras learn from Nathan MacKinnon. MacKinnon is known for his intense attention to detail, on and off the ice, which could benefit Zegras' game, and potentially finally take him to the next level that many predicted he has in his game.
The Avalanche currently have $4.6 million in deadline cap space and are surely not finished making moves before the March 7 trade deadline. The Ducks, on the other hand, are still very much in rebuilding mode and could see a change of scenery beneficially to Zegras, while also cashing in on the one-time top prospect.
Keep an eye on these two teams, the Ducks are selling, with an openness to re-tool some of their core, meanwhile the Avalanche are buying, with another Stanley Cup the goal this season.
