Ducks Trade Rumors: 4 Teams Linked to D-Man Brian Dumoulin
The Anaheim Ducks have a number of prominent names available as we get closer to the trade deadline, so it's understandable that third-pairing defenseman Brian Dumoulin often gets overlooked.
The 33-year-old blueliner is an impending unrestricted free agent, in the final season of his two-year, $3.15 million AAV deal. The insiders at The Fourth Period say he will be another Duck on the trade block. Dumoulin has a 10-team no-trade list, but for some Stanley Cup hopefuls who are in need of a strong, 6'4" defensive presence like Dumoulin, that shouldn't be much of a roadblock.
And TFP suggests that four teams (three of which meet that 'Cup hopeful' criteria) are on the watch list when it comes to Dumoulin interest.
Multiple teams are in the market for a shutdown defenceman and could have interest in Dumoulin, including the Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators, and Winnipeg Jets.
The Oilers have been linked to a multitude of D-men in their search for another top-six, or better still, top-four backliner, while the Stars are used to upgrading their blueline at the deadline, doing so last year with Chris Tanev.
The Jets used most of their bullets heading up to the deadline last year on notable forwards like Sean Monahan and Tyler Toffoli. A smaller deal for third-pairing defenseman Colin Miller also ensued. The Senators are a new entrant to the playoff picture this year, and to the buyer's market.
In an average of 20 minutes of ice time per night across his 12-year NHL career, Dumoulin has 163 points, but much more importantly, a plus/minus rating of +98.
The Ducks have already made two big moves on the blueline via the trade market this season, by sending veteran Cam Fowler to St. Louis, and acquiring NY Rangers captain Jacob Trouba. Whether he might still be flipped is another question altogether.
