Insider: 2 Sharks Defensemen Drawing Trade Interest

The San Jose Sharks have plenty of trade pieces as we get closer to the deadline, but not all of them are impending unrestricted free agents. Per insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, defenseman Mario Ferraro is once again on plenty of teams' radars.

Mario Ferraro, who has generated a lot of interest over the last few years, has continued to do so again this season.

Ferraro has another year left after this one on his contract with an affordable $3.25 million cap hit. He's spent his entire six-year career in San Jose.

Pagnotta added that Cody Ceci, who is on an expiring contract and is set to be a UFA, is also drawing looks from some teams.

"These are two defensemen to keep an eye on as we edge closer to that March 7 deadline," says Pagnotta

Ferraro, the 26-year-old former second-round pick, has put up some ugly plus/minus numbers in his time with the Sharks, but that's to be expected on a team that's topped the 60-point mark in a season only once in the last five years. He has a minus-19 this season and a cumulative minus-144 in his 375 career games.

Ferraro does block shots (195 last season) and bang bodies (102 hits this season in 45 games).

Among the teams looking to add to their bluelines by the trade deadline include the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers.

The Sharks, as mentioned, do have other trade candidates to dangle as well, including Mikael Granlund, Luke Kunin, Nico Sturm, and Jan Rutta.

San Jose is once again bringing up the rear in the Pacific Division at 13-26-6, and should be one of the busiest sellers by March 7.
