Insider Pushes Bold Rangers/Canucks Trade That "Needs To Be Worked Out"

The New York Rangers actually won a game Thursday night. But with only their 5th win in their last 20 games, their season is still a big tire fire. Meanwhile, over on the other coast, the Vancouver Canucks are reeling from a protracted drama between two of their best players, JT Miller and Elias Pettersson.

Former NHLer and Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos suggested on Thursday's Real Kyper & Bourne show that he has a solution for both teams. Although Miller has a full no-move clause, he sees a potential solution:

I do believe that there's one spot (Miller) would maybe lift his no-move for and that would be the New York Rangers. And they're looking. They want JT Miller.

And Kypreos didn't stop there, he went on to propose the return (or at least the start of a return package) that the Rangers could send back:

JT Miller goes to Rangers, Mika Zibanejad (goes to Vancouver). And you can put whatever you want around it (i.e. whatever else New York would have to include)... I'm not saying that Zibanejad is a JT Miller, (or) a Number One centerman, but... Dress it up anyway you want... That, to me, is a deal that needs to be worked out.

Kypreos even went on to suggest that perhaps the Canucks could get the Rangers to include big defenseman K'Andre Miller to get that deal done.

Miller and Pettersson have been feuding for some time now, going back years, and the Canucks are reportedly getting fed up with the whole thing, and have been listening on trade calls, per Kyper's fellow Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman.

Miller took a personal leave of absence for about three weeks earlier this season, and has otherwise not had a season up to his usual standards, with just six goals and 24 points in 26 games. He's coming off three consecutive 30+ goal seasons.

Zibanejad has had an even more dreadful year on Broadway, with just six goals and 21 points in 36 games with a minus-22 rating.

Both players are 31, and both have five years remaining (after this one) on huge long-term deals—Miller at $8 million AAV and Zibanejad at $8.5 million.

A deal like this would be the buzz of the NHL season, but for now, it just exists in the head of Kypreos.
