Islanders Rumors: 2 forwards expected to be traded before March 7 deadline

The New York Islanders are in a dog fight in the Eastern Conference. The Isles have won three straight games, however, are 17-18-7 on the season, and are five points out of a playoff spot.

GM Lou Lamoriello has some big decisions to make on a few of his trade candidates ahead of the March 7 deadline. Here's two Islander forwards very likely to be moved in the coming weeks:

Brock Nelson

Pending free agent, consistent goal-scoring production, veteran versatile forward, Nelson will be on the radar of many contending teams. He's owed $6 million against the cap this season, and holds a 16-team no-trade clause on his contract. The Canucks, Maple Leafs, and Bruins have been linked recently, and expect to see several other teams get involved. Lamoriello should be able to fetch at least a first-round pick and NHL ready prospect in return.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau

Pageau does it all for the Islanders and it's his versatility that make him an interesting trade option for several teams. Pageau has recorded 21 points in 40 games this season, averaging 17:21 of ice-time per game. He kills penalties, can play on the second power play, down the middle of the ice or on the wing. Pageau's owed $5 million AAV through next season, and also owns a 16-team no-trade clause. Expect to see the Islanders land at least a second-round pick in exchange for the pesky forward.
