The illegal check to the head on Philadelphia Flyers forward Ryan Poehling did not result in a penalty—even after a review— which of course left coach John Tortorella fuming.
The NHL's Player Safety Dept. obviously differed with the game officials.

"With Tsyplakov backchecking with speed... as Poehling's releases a shot, Tsyplakov finishes a high, hard check that cuts across the front of his body, making the head the main point of contact," said DoPS in its ruling.
"His shoulder makes direct and forceful contact with Poehling's head...that absorbs the vast majority of the force of this check.'
Poehling suffered an upper-body injury and was ruled out for the rest of the game.
