NHL Rumors: Several "Under-The-Radar" Trade Candidates

Harman Dayal and Chris Johnston of The Athletic recently explored a group of under-the-radar NHL players who could benefit from a fresh start, either by the March 7 trade deadline or during the offseason.

While not at the center of trade rumors, these players have struggled to maintain consistent roles or meet expectations, leading to speculation about what the trade deadline may hold for them.

Edmonton Oilers winger Jeff Skinner, for example, has been scratched multiple times since the holiday break due to his inability to mesh with the team’s top playmakers. Philadelphia Flyers forward Joel Farabee has also seen his production decline, prompting coach John Tortorella to comment that his game had gone "stale."

New York Rangers defensemen K’Andre Miller and Ryan Lindgren face uncertain futures as the team work around salary cap issues.

Miller, once seen as a rising star, has plateaued this season with just 11 points in 42 games, while Lindgren’s defensive struggles have become more noticeable despite his effectiveness on the penalty kill.

Other players mentioned include Calgary Flames winger Andrei Kuzmenko, who has seen his scoring and ice time drop after a breakout season, and Matt Dumba, whose tenure with the Dallas Stars has been disappointing, relegating him to a bottom-pair role despite signing a two-year deal.

Despite struggling this year, these are skilled players who could attract interest from teams looking for upside.

As Dayal and Johnston wrote, “These players often go through dips in production or struggle to carve out meaningful roles, but a fresh start can often reignite their careers.”
