NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Goalies Who Could Be Dealt Before March 7
The NHL's trade deadline is March 7, and while there's already been a flurry of moves throughout this season, expect to see a number of trades to be finalized over the next eight weeks.
Specifically, look for multiple goaltenders to be traded over the next two months, with these three netminders prime trade candidates:
John Gibson, Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks aren't in playoff contention in the Western Conference and look for GM Pat Verbeek to try and move some assets before the deadline. Gibson's no stranger to trade rumors and once again this season, is expected to be involved in trade talks. The 31-year-old netminder has appeared in 12 games this season, posting a 5-5-1 record, with a 2.84 GAA. Lukas Dostal is the goaltender of the future for the Ducks, and if Gibson is moved, look for Verbeek to try and land a top-six forward in return. Gibson owns a 10-team no-trade clause, and is owed $6.4 million AAV the next two seasons.
Dan Vladar, Calgary Flames
Dustin Wolf has burst onto the scene and the Flames are expected to get phone calls on Vladar's availability before March 7. Vladar's a pending UFA and so far this season has been a touch inconsistent. He's 6-7-5 on the year, with a 3.02 GAA and .890 Sv.%. Vladar's owed $2.2 million this season and doesn't hold any trade protection. Keep an eye on the Carolina Hurricanes over the next few weeks as potential trade destination.
Alexandar Georgiev, San Jose Sharks
Georgiev was just acquired by the Sharks for Mackenzie Blackwood, and with the Avs retaining some money on Georgiev's remainder of his contract, GM Mike Grier is going to get some inquiries on a trade. San Jose has the Russian goaltender on the books for just $2.9 million for the rest of this season, so far, he's trying to find his game, posting a 1-4-0 record with a 4.08 GAA. Georgiev's won 38 and 40 games over the past four seasons, and despite his dip this year, look for a contender to add Georgiev for some depth in their crease for their playoff run.
