NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Trade Destinations For Blackhawks' Seth Jones

The Chicago Blackhawks are weighing trade offers for defenseman Seth Jones ahead of the March 7 trade deadline.

Jones, 30, is in the third year of an eight-year, $9.5 million AAV contract with a full no-movement clause, making any potential deals tricky.

However, his ability to play heavy minutes as a right-shot defenseman has caught the attention of several contenders. Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson has spoke on patience in the process, stating, “We’ll be listening to see what happens. Nothing that we’re going to certainly force.”

The Carolina Hurricanes are a prime candidate for Jones, as their blue-line depth has been hit hard by the departures of Brady Skjei and Brett Pesce, while Brent Burns and Dmitry Orlov are set to become free agents this summer.

Jones could form a solid top pairing with Jaccob Slavin, giving Carolina stability for years to come. The Hurricanes possess valuable trade assets, including young players like Jesperi Kotkaniemi or prospects such as Dominik Badinka.

A deal might require creative cap management or a three-team trade to balance the financials.

The Dallas Stars are another strong suitor, especially with the flexibility of placing Tyler Seguin on LTIR to open $9.9 million in cap space.

Jones would address Dallas’ thin right-side depth behind Miro Heiskanen and help reduce the Finnish star’s workload during a playoff run.

Prospects like Christian Kyrou or Mavrik Bourque could headline a package for Jones.

A third potential landing spot is the Detroit Red Wings, who have the cap space to absorb Jones’ contract and a need for a reliable right-shot defenseman to pair with Moritz Seider.

With a deep pool of prospects, including Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Marco Kasper, Detroit could assemble a competitive offer while addressing a critical need on their blue line.
