NHL Trade Rumors: Devils "Very Interested" In Islanders' Kyle Palmieri

The New Jersey Devils are reportedly interested in reuniting with veteran winger Kyle Palmieri, according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post

Palmieri, who spent six successful seasons with the Devils from 2015 to 2021, is considered a strong candidate to add to New Jersey’s offensive depth as they gear up for a playoff push.

Currently with the New York Islanders, Palmieri has been very solid this season, recording 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points in 48 games.

His familiarity with the Devils’ system and reliable production make him an intriguing option for general manager Tom Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald, speaking to The Athletic, expressed his desire to acquire "utility players" who bring size, versatility, and the ability to play multiple positions.

The 33-year-old's ability to thrive in various roles, along with his 15 NHL seasons of experience and leadership, could make him a strong addition to a Devils lineup centered around young stars like Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier.

With a $5 million cap hit in the final year of his contract, Palmieri is a feasible trade target, especially if the Islanders are willing to retain some salary.

The Islanders, currently outside the playoff picture, are likely to consider moving Palmieri, who's in the final year of a 4-year, $20m contract.

Brooks noted that it would be “surprising” if both Palmieri and teammate Brock Nelson remain with the team past the March 7 trade deadline.
