Oilers Rumors: 3 Defensemen Linked To Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers currently sport a 24-12-3 record and are one of the top teams in the Western Conference. Due to this, the expectation is that they will be buyers once we get closer to the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline.

One specific area that the Oilers will surely aim to improve is their defensive group. According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Oilers are currently linked to Anaheim Ducks defenseman Brian Dumoulin, Columbus Blue Jackets blueliner Ivan Provorov, and Montreal Canadiens defender David Savard.

Dumoulin, 33, is a pending unrestricted free agent on a Ducks team that is expected to be sellers, so he will likely be moved. He could be a solid addition to the Oilers' blueline, as he is a steady defensive defenseman with plenty of playoff experience. In 39 games this season, he has eight assists and a plus-2 rating.

Provorov, 27, is one of the top blueliners who could be traded before the deadline. The 27-year-old would be a big-time addition to the Oilers' top four if acquired. This is because he produces solid offense from the point and works on both the power play and penalty kill. In 40 games this season with Columbus, he has three goals an 18 points.

As for Savard, the veteran defenseman has been connected to the Oilers in the past. Thus, it is not too surprising to hear that he is on their radar again. In 35 games this season with the Habs, he has one goal and 10 points.
