Penguins' Trade Rumor: Sidney Crosby to the Colorado Avalanche?

After the Colorado Avalanche pulled off a blockbuster trade dealing Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes, the wheels starting spinning in the hockey rumor mills, with all the attention going to Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby.

The Penguins are actively discussing trades, however at this point there's no sense that Crosby will be invovled. That didn't stop the 'Crosby to Avalanche' rumors from popping up all over on Friday night, so much so, two insiders had to chime in and put some water on the fire.

Crosby has a full no-move clause, he's signed for $8.7 million AAV through the 2026-27 season, and from all accounts will be finishing his career in Pittsburgh. As much as Nathan MacKinnon wants Crosby in Colorado, it doesn't feel like that is on the table at this point.

For now, put more attention on the likes of Rickard Rakell, Marcus Pettersson, Erik Karlsson and Ryan Graves to be moved by Kyle Dubas, with the Crosby trade a very unlikely scenario at this point. Sid is loyal, hence the $8.7 million cap hit for so long.

Elliotte Friedman chimed in as well: "Also: I know there’s a lot of fan/media hope for Sidney Crosby in Colorado this season, but I’d be shocked. I’ve been shocked before, but that would really do it."
