Rangers Rumors: Defenseman Ryan Lindgren Opens Up On Trade Rumors

Ryan Lindgren has made it clear that he does not want to be traded by the New York Rangers, as reported by Larry Brooks of the New York Post

The 26-year-old defenseman, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the season, including speculation about a potential deal involving Vancouver Canucks center J.T. Miller.

Despite the chatter, Lindgren remains committed to the Rangers’ playoff push, stating, “I don’t like hearing or seeing my name included in these rumors, but I get it. I’m just trying to do my best, focus on hockey, and enjoy it.”

This season has been a tough one for Lindgren, who missed the first five games due to an upper-body injury and has struggled with inconsistent play. While he continues to average nearly 20 minutes per game alongside Adam Fox on the Rangers’ top defensive pairing, his possession numbers have declined, and his defensive results have dipped compared to previous years.

Nonetheless, Lindgren’s shot-blocking ability remains a key asset—he leads the team with 86 blocks—but his offensive contributions have been minimal.

The Rangers’ recent signing of William Borgen to a long-term contract has also fueled speculation that the team may be preparing to move on from Lindgren after the season.

Acquired from Boston in 2018 as part of the Rick Nash trade, Lindgren has played all 377 games of his NHL career with New York, recording 92 points and a +97 rating. His chemistry with Fox and his gritty style of play have made him a mainstay on the blue line.

For now, Lindgren is focused on helping the team, saying, “I just try and block it out. I know what the team needs, and I’m just trying to enjoy it.”
