Report: At least 2 teams given permission to speak to Canucks' J.T Miller

From all accounts, it feels like the Vancouver Canucks are going to trade forward J.T Miller, and by the sounds of it, they're letting Miller get heavily involved in the process.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, then Canucks have given the New York Rangers and the Carolina Hurricanes permission to speak with Miller. The 31-year-old versatile forward has a full no-movement clause and is signed for $8 million AAV through the 2029-30 season.

8. The Hurricanes and Rangers are two of the teams with permission to talk to J.T. Miller. Believe the New York offer was Filip Chytil, a first-rounder and a prospect. I get very mixed messages on New Jersey. The Rangers have the cap room to do it, but the Devils would need to perform roster surgery to pull it off. Yes, they struggled until pounding Boston on Wednesday, but that’s a good team. I’m not convinced about Dallas, either. I always assume I’m missing something, though. - Friedman, 32 Thoughts, Jan.23,2025

It's been a drama filled season for Miller and the Canucks, who seem to have some chemistry issues throughout their dressing room, and it's starting to feel like Canucks' management is starting to advance the process of moving on from the veteran forward. Meanwhile, Elias Pettersson has also been making headlines this season, but appears to be the one of the two who will wind up staying in Vancouver. At least, that's Pettersson's desire.

Miller has recorded eight goals and 32 points in 36 games this season, and can play in all situations. The Hurricanes have quickly become a team heavily linked to a deal, so there's certainly the feel they've become the favorites at this point.
