Report: Bruins "keeping an eye on" JT Miller
The Boston Bruins are struggling to keep themselves in playoff positioning and they continue to wallow around in 26th in the league in goals per game. It's obvious they need a center who can provide a jolt and an offensive boost, and perhaps no one available around the league right now could provide that for Boston better than JT Miller of the Vancouver Canucks.
There are a number of financial hurdles to overcome, but insider Frank Seravalli said on Daily Faceoff Live on Friday that the Bruins do have Miller on their radar as the Canucks continue to try to get a trade done sooner rather than later.
I know they're a team that's closely monitoring the (Miller) situation. We know the hole they have in their roster at the center position, and (the need) to get a high-end, high-impact guy.
He also seems to kind of fit the nature of that organization. He's an intense player, (team president) Cam Neely is an intense executive. I can see that being a guy that they really like, and I know that they're keeping an eye on it.
For the moment, Seravalli isn't sure just how active or aggressive the Bruins are being in any Vancouver discussions, and he figures they're more just sort of watching to see how things unfold and then trying to make their move.
"I would term them as a team lurking in the weeds right now to try and monitor those (trade) prices," said the insider.
The Canucks could start to get desperate soon, as the chaos surrounding the team has led to them losing four of their last five games, and they've won just four of their last 17 contests. They're three points out of a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, at 20-17-10.
The Bruins, meanwhile, are nothing to write home about, either. Their win over the Ottawa Senators Thursday night squeaked them back into third place in the Atlantic Division temporarily. But they are the only one of the eight teams in a current playoff spot in the East with a negative goal differential—and it's ugly, at minus-22.
Both teams need to do something. This dynamic is worth keeping an eye on.
