Report: Penguins & Sabres emerging as trade partners
According to hockey insider Elliotte Friedman, the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins certainly have potential to become trade partners before the March 7 deadline.
Friedman released his latest 32 Thoughts blog, and cited the fact the Penguins have been scouting the Sabres' farm system and have their eye on a few of Buffalo's NHL-ready prospects.
11. With all of the noise around the Penguins, I believe they have interest in some of Buffalo’s younger, NHL-ready prospects. It fits what they want.
The Penguins have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons this season. And, despite all the rampant trade rumors, president/GM Kyle Dubas recently stated it won't be the fire sale everyone is expecting. Meanwhile, the Sabres have also been a mess this season. From Lindy Ruff calling the team out numerous times for their embarrassing play, to GM Kevyn Adams admitting Buffalo isn't a destination city for players, there's certainly going to be several changes throughout the two organizations over the next few weeks.
Entering Thursday's action, the Penguins are 20-21-8, four points back of the second wild-card spot in the East. Meanwhile, the Sabres are 18-24-5, dead last in the East.
Sabres forward Jack Quinn could be a player to watch between these two teams, along with Konsta Helenius and goaltender Devon Levi.
