Report: Stars Getting Ready For Big Move At Trade Deadline

The Dallas Stars are reportedly poised to make a big move at the NHL trade deadline, with GM Jim Nill prepared to be aggressive in adding to the roster.

According to Jim Biringer of NHL Rumors, the Stars are among the teams most likely to make an impact move, thanks in part to the potential $9.85 million in LTIR relief from Tyler Seguin’s injury.

Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period echoed this on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio, stating, “Dallas is certainly a team that I think is going to be really active, and I’m curious to see just how big of a swing they’re going to take.”

With the team sitting among the Western Conference’s top contenders, Nill has the cap flexibility and trade assets to add big names.

The Stars have been linked to multiple trade targets, including Brock Nelson of the New York Islanders, Frank Vatrano of the Anaheim Ducks, and Mikael Granlund of the San Jose Sharks to bolster their forward group.

On defense, Ivan Provorov, Marcus Pettersson, Vladislav Gavrikov, and K’Andre Miller are potential options to strengthen the blue line.

Biringer noted that Dallas will likely look for players on expiring contracts to maximize roster flexibility. With Seguin out, the team has room to acquire multiple impact players without worrying about cap problems, a strategy successful contenders have used in past seasons.

With less than six weeks until the March 7 deadline, the Stars must decide whether to act early or wait for the market to develop.

Pierre LeBrun of TSN believes Dallas is in a strong position to be aggressive, saying, “They’re already a Cup contender, but they may take some big swings on the trade market.”

The uncertainty surrounding Miro Heiskanen’s health could further influence their approach, particularly in addressing defensive depth.
