Sabres Rumors: Buffalo Nearing Big Decision On Jason Zucker

The Buffalo Sabres are nearing a big decision on veteran winger Jason Zucker as the NHL trade deadline approaches.

As noted by Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic, Zucker has been one of the Sabres’ most impactful players this season, tallying 16 goals and 35 points in 46 games while providing leadership to the league’s youngest roster.

Signed to a one-year, $5 million deal, the 33-year-old has expressed a strong desire to remain in Buffalo, saying, “This is where I am, where I want to be, and I’m going to help contribute any way I can to this organization.”

Zucker’s resurgent season and physical style have made him a valuable trade chip for playoff contenders seeking a capable scorer.

Fairburn notes that his performance this year has really boosted his trade value compared to last season when he was moved for a modest return. With no trade protection in his contract, Zucker is an attractive rental option who could bring the Sabres meaningful future assets.

However, general manager Kevyn Adams must consider the value Zucker brings to Buffalo’s young core, both on the ice and in the locker room, making for a tough decision for the team.

Zucker’s strong play within the Sabres’ fast, aggressive system, particularly what he's been able to do on the power play, has solidified his importance to the team.

“Until they tell me otherwise or I find out otherwise, this is where I am, and I’m fully invested here,” Zucker said of his situation.
