Stars Rumors: Update On Pending UFA Jamie Benn's Future With Dallas

The Dallas Stars reportedly plan to re-sign captain Jamie Benn, aiming to ensure he finishes his career with the team that drafted him.

According to multiple sources, including Jim Biringer of RG.org, both Benn and Stars general manager Jim Nill are looking to extend their partnership, with formal negotiations set to take place after the season.

"Neither party is worried about Benn staying in Dallas," a source shared. "The expectation is he will finish his career as a member of the Dallas Stars. He wants to do that."

Benn, 35, is in the final year of his eight-year, $76 million contract and has spent his entire 16-year career with the Stars.

As a fifth-round pick in 2007, Benn defied expectations to become one of the franchise's most iconic players, amassing 937 points in 1,157 games and serving as team captain since 2013.

While his next contract is unlikely to match his current $9.5 million annual average value, Benn’s leadership and solid production, including 30 points in 43 games this season, make him a valuable asset both on and off the ice.

Preliminary discussions last summer set the stage for an extension, with Benn expressing a clear desire to stay in Dallas and Nill speaking on the importance of keeping the long-time leader with the team.

As one source noted, "The Stars don’t want to lose their captain, and Benn has no plans of leaving Dallas."
