Veteran Center, Former 1st-Rounder Colin White Signs NHL Deal

After splitting last season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montréal Canadiens, eight-year veteran centre Colin White had been spending this season on an AHL deal with the Barracudas. The San Jose Sharks are now converting that to an NHL contract, and White will join the team.

The right-shot centre spent 20 games with the Barracuda this season, recording 10 points with a plus/minus rating of minus-3. He was with the Sharks at practice Friday morning.

White spent his first five full seasons in the NHL with the Ottawa Senators after being a first-round selection by the team in 2015 (21st overall). His high-water mark was back in his rookie season in 2018-19 when he recorded 41 points in 71 games on 14 goals and 27 assists while playing 16:12 per night. He garnered enough votes to finish 11th in the Calder Trophy balloting.

White's production and time on ice has decreased steadily since then, and now, just shy of his 28th birthday, he'll get another shot at the NHL level.

Last year with the Habs and Pens, he didn't register a single point in 28 games, averaging 9:31 of ice time per contest.

White has 113 points in 320 career NHL games.
